December Newsletter

Christmas at Steps of Faith

December 12– 17th

This year we are implementing something new for Christmas. Instead of having evening Christmas shows, we will simply have Parent Watch week. We hope this allows you to have a better glimpse into what your child is learning all year. There will be no refreshments, however, we will have a small gift for our dancers!

Nativity Ornaments and Anniversary Shirts FOR SALE

Make sure you get your commemorative 10th Anniversary Ornament. We will have a limited supply and will not be doing this every year. They are $12 each and are being presold NOW. If you want to guarantee you have one, order yours now. You will also receive a voucher for a free one with Premium seats for the show. So you can count on one that way as well. They will arrive the week of Dec. 11th!

Nativity T-shirts feature the names of the dancers/actors over the last ten years for the show! We will order only 200 of these, so first come first served! If you want to guarantee one for you or your dancer (or alumni dancer since all their names are on it), pre-pay for your shirt today! They will be available for pickup and sale mid November. There are almost 300 names on it!!!! They will be v-neck and $12 for adult sizes and $9 and round neck for child sizes. Both are black with white lettering. You wont want to miss these!!!

The Nativity   Our Steps of Faith Dance Company teachers and dancers are putting in so much time in rehearsal and preparation for their production of The Nativity. Performance time will be here before we know it. Mark your calendar!!

TICKETS: Remember that the Grand Theatre has implemented a new policy that requires all tickets to be sold through their office. This year they are reserved seats. Tickets will go on sale November 1st at 8am. To purchase tickets you can order over the phone with a credit card or go to the theatre office. Grand Theatre: 770-386-7343

Office hours for the Grand Theatre are Monday—Friday 8am –5pm. (The office is closed for lunch daily from 11-12.) Prices are $20 for advance premium seating with a free ornament and $25 at the door (no ornament). Regular seating is $12 or $15 at the door. Students are $9 in advance, adults are $12 in advance. Group rates are available.



ARCHANGELS: If you or your business is interested in becoming an underwriter, let us know. (SOF Dance Co. is 501C, so your donations are tax deductible.) Your name will be listed in the program as Sponsors. Prayerfully consider a donation if God gives you the means. All proceeds of the show (after covering the costs) will go to support our dance company’s mission work in the years to come.



NATIVITY PROGRAMS We will be selling ads for our Nativity program starting Nov. 1st. Prices are: $25 eighth page, $50 quarter page, $150 half page, $250 for the back cover. This is an opportunity for you to share a special message (w/ a photo )with your dancer. See office for copies of last year’s program or underwriter forms.

Toys For Tots


The Toys for Tots program is right around the corner! Companies are beginning to donate small stocking stuffers — last year Steps of Faith stuffed over 1000 stockings. This year, we will probably stuff 1500 stockings!! I will post volunteer signup sheets on the bulletin board prior to the needed days (probably Saturdays in Nov and early Dec). All ages are needed. Registration Open Now for New Students to Begin in January


We are now registering for students to start in November OR January. No new students will be able to start in December due to the busyness of the month for our staff. New registration will continue through Saturday, January 26th. If you have friends who want to join us for the Spring Concert, this is the time for them to reserve their spot. Remember they are welcome to come visit us before registering. Have them call the office to take a tour or try a class for FREE! October Newsletter

Parent Watch Week for Christmas
Rather than the traditional Christmas “shows”, we have decided to have parent watch week the week of December 17-21 during your child’s regular class time. Parents are invited to come and watch a full class to see what your child has learned already this year. I think you will be impressed! This will allow our teachers to focus on teaching them HOW to dance rather than teaching them A DANCE. It also allows for you to see what you are paying for each week, and how wonderfully your children and teachers are sharing the art of dance at SOF. Note: Company classes will be different, so stay tuned for that schedule after Nativity.

The Nativity at The Grand Theatre: December 15 & 16
Plan to join us as the Steps of Faith Dance Company Inc. presents: The Nativity, December 15 & 16 at The Grand Theatre. Cast listing will go up this week, including girls cast from the Ballet Prep and Ballet 1 classes who auditioned on Saturday.

This year is our special Tenth Year Anniversary of The Nativity. Because it is such a special year, we have many great things planned. Commemorative ornaments are being ordered and are part of the Premium seating advantage. We will have assigned seating this year at the Grand. Premium seating is in the Orchestra Center section and includes an ornament with each seat for $20. Regular seating is available for the rest of the theatre for $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Tickets go on sale at the Grand Theatre Box office on Nov. 1st. Ornaments are available for purchase as well for $12 each.

A special patron and alumni reception will be held before the Saturday evening’s show at Tonsmeire Studio. If you are a patron or have participated in the show in year’s past, you are invited. RSVPs are appreciated.

We are looking for sponsors for the show and the cast party. If you or your business is interested, please contact Board Member JoAnn Aragon 404-434-0695. We will not be able to host a cast party like in year’s past unless we can get it sponsored or have food and/or space donated.

Work Day At Steps of Faith We have planned a day to work on our landscape, spruce up the studio, and do our quarterly Adopt A Road clean up. So we need many hands to help us out! Our Yard Day will be Saturday, October 27th. Mark your calendar!! Some of our goals for the day are: replace plants, mulch, and pull weeds. Inside we are going to do minor repairs, and cleaning Not only do we need volunteers, but we also need yard tools, too. Please bring rakes, shovels, wheel barrels, & etc. We are also doing our Road Clean up so bring gloves. We will provide trash bags. The Volunteer Sign Up Sheet will be posted on bulletin board in the lobby. We have had great fun doing this together in the past years. We could not have done it with out everyone of you helping. Thank you in advance!!!

  OCTOBERS COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Each month or so, we try to extend a helping hand to those in need in our community. The Tranquility Women’s Shelter is in need of the following items: Laundry detergent, bleach, paper products, napkins, bath room tissue, gift cards for groceries and gas. Please bring in any of these items to the office by the end of October.

TOYS FOR TOTS and SOF:
We are excited to announce our fall – winter “mission” in Cartersville.  As most of you know, Steps of Faith has been to Norway, New York, and more recently, Trinidad spreading God’s word through dance and hand’s on mission work. Going abroad is important, but it is also important to spread our good work locally.  This year, we are going to work with the Toys for Tots Program, which collects new and unwrapped toys during mid October to December time frame. Volunteer opportunities abound to collect, sort, and distribute the toys to needy families in Bartow County.  If you cannot volunteer, you can bring in an unwrapped toy for a child (age 0 – 18 yrs) and place in the designated box in the studio.  Sign-up sheets for volunteers will be posted later.  Any questions, please contact Nancy Miller at nemiller@mindspring.com Thanks in advance!!!

September Newsletter

Second Annual Steps of Faith Fall Festival


Plan to join us on Saturday, September 22nd from 10am-3pm. We are planning a day of Family Fun at SOF!! There will be free performances by our very own dancers as well as several community performers, a variety of vendors, a rock wall &/or inflatables, food, silent auction, and carnival games. Mark your calendar & invite your friends!! Admission is free, however, there will be a charge for some activities and food. Our goal in this endeavor is 3 fold:

1. For our SOF family to come together and have FUN!

2. Raise awareness in Cartersville to SOF’s presence.

3. Raise funds for Steps of Faith Dance Company.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! There are a couple of different ways you can get involved. Keep reading and let us know if you can help!! We are taking donations of food items such as: hot dogs, hot dog buns, ketchup, mustard, and a variety of baked goods. Also, we need donations for our silent auction. Some examples would be: Maybe you own a cabin in the mountains and could donate a weekend to be auctioned off. Maybe you sell Avon, Tupperware, Pampered Chef and could donate some of your product. You are a musician and could offer donate some classes. You are a baker and could donate a cake for a special occasion. You get the idea. These are only suggestions. (The possibilities are limitless!!)

In addition to donations, we need volunteers to help us that day. Jobs we will need help with: set up, break down, bake sale, selling hot dogs, and etc. There will be a sign up sheet posted on bulletin board in lobby. See you there!

      Auditions for Nativity for Ballet Prep

and Ballet 1 students

Saturday, September 29th, 2:45-4:00pm

If your child is currently enrolled in our Ballet Prep or Ballet 1 classes and is interested in performing in this year’s production of The Nativity, please join us for the auditions. Students will be led by a teacher and will execute a simple ballet class and small excerpts of choreography. Students will be judged on their attentiveness, ability to follow directions, ability to execute the movement shown, and overall appearance and demeanor. These auditions will be fun for our youngest (and cutest!) Nativity dancers, so there is no need to worry! Students must wear their current level’s uniform including the designated color leotard, pink tights, and pink leather or canvas soft ballet shoes. Hair must be of professional standard (Please refer to the bulletin board if you need to “brush up” on your bun making skills!) No warm-ups or ballet skirts are allowed into the audition studio. No jewelry, no nail polish, and no pony tails are allowed. Shows are Dec. 15/16 and rehearsals will be on Saturdays starting mid to late October. We hope to have several casts of “angels” so each dancer would do only one or two shows. See Ms. Julie with questions. Thank you. We look forward to seeing you at auditions!

Monthly draft ALSO available

As most of you know, we are able to accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express credit and debit cards. We are now offering a service where we can charge your card monthly on a payment schedule so that you do not have to remember to come in a pay. A Tuition Draft Consent Form is available in the office. If you would like for us to automatically charge your card for tuition each month, please come in a fill out the form. Your card information will be stored under lock and key, and only our office manager will have access to it, so you do not need to worry about that. We will also offer to charge for costume fees if you would like. Monthly tuition charges will be charged between the first and fifth of each month. Costume fees will be charged on the date they are due. You may also pay through PayPal, through our website: www.steps-of-faith.com. See Ms. Tonya for more information.

Summer and Fall Registration are BUSY

I dont think it ever slows down around here!  We already have one full dance camp and all the others are doing great on enrollment.  (the full one is the 3-5yr old one in July in case you were wondering). 

If you are planning on attending any dancecamp or summer intensive, SIGN UP NOW!  June 4th will be here before you know it!

If you have any Special kids in your life who live with Special Needs, let them know about our Special Needs camp for only $25  June 11-15.  We need Peer Helpers for this as well, so if you can, volunteer!!

We have also set the details for our NEW HipHopETC Camp for July 23-27.  Kids in this camp will learn a dance to perform at our National Dance Day Open House on July 28th!

Level 5 Students in our Summer Intensive also have the opportunity to showcase their choreographic talents on National Dance Day.  Be sure to sign up for the Saturday option for Intensives (Level 5 only).

National Dance Day/Open House is Saturday, July 28th from 10am-3pm.  Make plans now for free classes and demonstrations and an opportunity to register.

Classes for the fall begin Monday, August 13th (a week later than we thought due to schools beginning a week later than we thought).  The 2012-2013 year will run through May 18, 2013.

MARCH 2012 Newsletter

First of all I apologize that January and February's newsletters didnt get posted. Sorry about that! But here is the newest...
Spring Praise Concerts 2012: May 12

All of our students have begun learning their dances by now. Students will appear in one of six concerts throughout the day at the Clarence Brown Conference Center’s Carter Hall. Yep, SIX. We needed six to fit our almost 300 students in for the day, and allow each concert to be limited to right around an hour. We have had many requests to shorten the shows to allow you to focus on your dancer for the day. I realize that means that some of you will be getting up early to be in the 930am show, but we must start early to get everyone done by 9pm. This will be our first year in this format and we are expecting to learn many new things. Please be patient in our transition to a new venue and new setup. Believe me, I have investigated EVERY option in the community, and this I believe IS the best opportunity for all of us! Reserved seating will be available through TicketAlternative ONLINE 24/7 by April. Tickets are $10 per seat. Each show seats only 300, so please plan on getting your tickets early. More info soon.

Underwriters Needed for Concert
In order to make the Steps of Faith Spring Concert possible and for us to pay for the rental of the Clarence Brown Conference Center and have professionally produced programs, Steps of Faith asks for underwriters for the Concert. This will keep the admission fee to the concert at only $10 a seat! Tickets will be for sale online and at the studio beginning in April.
Any and all proceeds from the concert will go to support the mission work of the non-profit Steps of Faith Dance Company, Inc.. So not only can you support the concert this spring, you will also be supporting spreading the Gospel throughout the world! Also, underwriting gives great Christian businesses in our community an opportunity to be recognized while they show their support for our ministry.
There will be several “levels” of sponsorship available. We will do this by allowing tastefully sized and professionally done “ad space” in our programs. This space also includes “Best wishes Boxes” that parents may purchase for their special dancer(s). “Prices” range from half page at $200 to Best Wishes Box at $45. Of course, all donations will be listed and appreciated. We must not forget: these contributions ARE what makes our Concert possible for our families.
We are asking that every SOF family sell ONE ad for our program. Individuals who buy an ad will receive FREE tickets to any performance, (up to 2 for eighth page, 4 for quarter page, 8 for half page).
If you or someone you know may be interested in underwriting our Concert, please let me or Tonya know. SOF’s number is 770-606-0506. We have forms for you to help us distribute in the lobby. We are also looking for CORPORATE sponsors to help at a higher level. Call Julie for info.
As always, God will provide for this year’s Concert. Costume Fee Balances Now Due
If you owe any part of your costume fees, that money is now required. We have paid for 100% of the costumes and need everyone’s accounts to be cleared. Thank you for helping us in this matter. Some of you have past due tuition, we URGENTLY need to keep your account up to date.

COMPANY PERFORMANCE: FREEDOM on April 28
For the first time, our resident pre-professional dance company, SOF Dance Company, will have its own show on a separate day of the students of the studio. This was to accommodate the number of students the studio now has, and make ALL the shows more enjoyable for all. The Company begins rehearsals for their full length shows this month. Their shows are on Saturday, April 28th and will be at the Grand Theatre at 1pm, and 4pm. We ENCOURAGE AND INVITE all the STUDIO STUDENTS and their families to enjoy a show of the highest caliber, full with worship to our Lord. These company members commit to dancing 2-6 days a week to train for these kinds of performances.
This year will feature a new piece that the Lord has laid on Ms. Julie’s heart that shows the power of Christ and how only HE can break the bondages we have. Make plans NOW to bring your dance student, and your family to this event! Tickets for this show will only be available through the Grand. We will be having assigned seating for your comfort. Come and be inspired!!!

Congratulations to Miss Mary and Josh on their upcoming wedding, March 31st. All are invited. RSVP in office.

SELAH Discipleship Training School
The Lord led us to develop and offer a discipleship training school for college aged kids here at SOF. It offers solid biblical training, ballet/pointe and other dance classes, and performance opportunities over a four week period this summer. We had a wonderful first year doing this with three participants. We decided to relaunch this as a summer program for 2012. If you know anyone you think who might be interested, give us an address and we will be glad to mail more info. Check us out on the web at www.steps-of-faith.com/selah. “SELAH” has several meanings, but the main one is to rest and reflect before the Lord. That is what we want to be for these young people, who the Lord is calling to use their gift of dance for His glory!!!

March 24: SOF Breakfast at Applebees!
Want a wonderful breakfast and help raise money for the SOF ministries too? Make plans NOW to attend our Flapjack Fundraiser at Applebees on Saturday morning, March 24!!!
There will be TWO sittings, one at 8am-9am and one at 9am-10am. Breakfast is only $7.00 each for pancakes/sausage, and softdrinks/coffee/juice! SOF makes $5 on every ticket sold. AND you get a $5 coupon to use at your next visit to Applebees! The Steps of Faith Dance Company will be your greeters and servers!!!! (Wonder if they can waitress as well as they dance??? HMMMM)
We have to sell the tickets in advance at the studio (no at the door purchases, sorry) and there is limited seating. So get your tickets now and support our SOFDance Company and their ministries. Tickets will be available for purchase starting on March 1st. Thanks for supporting SOF and her missions work!!!

PLANS FOR SUMMER AND FALL & Company AUDITION INFORMATION…
Summer Registration for DanceCamps and Summer Intensives Begins NOW online, and at the studio. Payment must accompany registration to make it valid. Go to www.steps-of-faith.com for registration online and more information! Fall Schedules will be up by mid-April. Early Fall registration will begin May 1st.

SUMMER PLANS are UNDERWAY
Many of you have already been asking about our dates for summer programs, and here they are!! We are planning an exciting and full summer schedule for all ages and levels. We will again offer DanceCamps for ages 3-10, and Summer Dance Intensives for our serious students ages 6+. We plan on having a full complete schedule (with times of day) later this month for you.

2012-2013 COMPANY AUDITIONS Will be held in last week of March. Summer Intensive attendance will be required.
Note that some of the younger levels will only be offered 2 or 3 of the total weeks of summer intensives. Dancers in levels 4 & 5 are required to take at least 3 weeks for fall company placement, and dancers in levels 1, 2 & 3 are required to take at least 2 weeks for fall company placement.
We will also like to offer weekly evening classes for advanced dancers and adults, if there is an interest. If you would like to have a class this summer, let us know!!
Here is a basic description of our programs:
DANCECAMPS- The DanceCamp is our “VBS of dance” and will be offered in a week format. These DanceCamps are full of fun, food and faith! (Crafts, too!!) No experience is necessary. This is a great way to try out dance or to keep active over the summer! (Most of our camps last year were full, so sign up early!) Ballet, tap and/or jazz, as well as creative movement and worship dance are taught at these camps along with daily devotions. Ages 3-5 are 2.5 hours in the morning, and the ages 6-10 stay morning through early afternoon! These are taught by our own staff!
BALLET SUMMER DANCE INTENSIVES are for serious dancers ages 6 and up as well as our Company dancers and meets 3-5 days a week. Weekly devotions are held at all levels to keep our focus on GOD! All here at SOF in a Christian environment you expect! Placement auditions for dancers not currently in the SOF ballet program will be held on June 7 (reservation required) If alternative audition date is needed, contact us. Current SOF Company will be notified of their summer/fall placement by April 16 There will be SIX levels of classes this year (5 company and 1 pre-company/ages 6-9), and cost is dependant on level (which meets for different number of hours and days per week). Cost ranges from $50-175 per week. And a 10% discount will be applied for anyone signing up by May 15! (You can take one, two, three or even four weeks!). Each week will feature similar classes and schedules. Guest and resident teachers in our upper levels will be teaching ballet, modern, tap, drama, jazz, dance lectures, musical theatre, pas de deux/partnering (upper level only), and other exciting classes to our company levels. Our own loving staff will be teaching our younger level (ABC) and will include ballet, tap and/or jazz as well as some surprises along the way.
Flyers will be ready in the coming weeks with more details. NON-SOF dancers are very welcome and can return to their studios/school programs after the summer! We want to make this a regional program. The goal of the intensive is to actually help you IMPROVE your technique over the summer instead of simply trying to maintain it! NOTE: New and Returning Company members will be required to take a minimum number of weeks to be placed next year (Alpha/Omega/T4: 3 weeks, T1-T3: 2 weeks). We hope many of you join us in our summer of fun! Last year was a very successful summer and we hope to include many more of you! We are adding a HipHop/Musical Theatre/Contemporary Camp for those who want to focus on these genres. No experience will be required. Please let us know if you are interested so we can set a firm date! This studio will be HOPPING, JUMPING, and LEAPING this summer!!
Plan now to join SOF for a great summer in dancing for our LORD!!

Company placement auditions will be held in March during normally scheduled classes this year to allow you plenty of time for planning and registration. Current Alpha/Omega will audition on Monday, March 26th. Timothy 3 & 4 will audition Thursday, March 29th during Timothy 4 regular class time. Timothy 1 & 2, and interested Ballet 2 girls will audition Thursday, March 29th 4-5:30. These results will be available by April 16. Ballet 1 girls interested in the company program will audition by attending the summer intensives this summer. Ask Ms. Julie regarding which summer level to sign up for. Please see Ms. Julie or Ms. Theresa if you have any questions about auditions or the company program. If you are in our recreation classes, and are not listed above, please contact Ms. Julie for audition.

There are NO OTHER DAYS the studio is closed except for Spring Break. All other school holidays are “CLASSES ON” for SOF!!!
